Brownies

Cakey on the outside and fudgy in the middle, this easy recipe really is the best!
FOOD FACT: The first brownie ever made was actually a mistake. The baker didn’t have any baking powder and the final product ended up being a fudgy treat. The original ingredients were only butter, sugar, chocolate, eggs, and flour.

Ingredients
  

  • Brownies:
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup all-purpose white flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Frosting:
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup powdered (confectioner’s) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8 x 8-inch pan.
    For the brownies, combine the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Remove the butter from the heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat in the dry ingredients. Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
    For the frosting, combine the butter, cocoa powder, honey, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and then frost the brownies while they are still warm.
