FOOD FACT: The first brownie ever made was actually a mistake. The baker didn’t have any baking powder and the final product ended up being a fudgy treat. The original ingredients were only butter, sugar, chocolate, eggs, and flour.
Ingredients
- Brownies:
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose white flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 medium eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Frosting:
- 3 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoons honey
- 1 cup powdered (confectioner’s) sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8 x 8-inch pan.- For the brownies, combine the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Remove the butter from the heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat in the dry ingredients. Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.- For the frosting, combine the butter, cocoa powder, honey, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and then frost the brownies while they are still warm.
